Flu Vaccine Information-Updated 12/2/11
Posted on Dec 30, 2011 PNP continues to take appointments for annual flu vaccines for our patients. If your child still needs his/her vaccine, please call the office to schedule an appointment with the nurse. We ask that you call during weekday business hours to schedule your appointment.
The 2011-2012 influenza vaccine will protect against H1N1 and two other influenza viruses. PNP is following current CDC/ACIP recommendations, and we are recommending that all children 6 months and older receive an influenza vaccine this year.
Children who are 6 months to 59 months old attending licensed day care centers and preschools in New Jersey must receive an annual flu shot before December 31 of each year.
Children with medical conditions are encouraged to schedule their vaccination as early in the season as possible.
Children under the age of 9 who are receiving the vaccine for the 1st time or did not receive any vaccine last year will need 2 vaccines this season, one month apart.
Flumist may be given to healthy children older than 2 years. It should not be given to the following patients:
People who have long-term health problems with: - heart disease - kidney or liver disease - lung disease - metabolic disease, such as diabetes - asthma - anemia, and other blood disorders. Anyone with certain muscle or nerve disorders (such as seizure disorders or cerebral palsy) that can lead to breathing or swallowing problems. Anyone with a weakened immune system. Children or adolescents on long-term aspirin treatment or having an egg allergy.
