PEDIAVISION PHOTOSCREENING NOW OFFERED
Posted on Nov 28, 2011 According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), vision disorders are one of the most common conditions in childhood. Early vision screening can lead to the detection, treatment, and prevention of many eye diseases. The AAP recommends that vision screening should be performed at the earliest possible age and at regular intervals during childhood. The goal remains to eliminate preventable blindness and treatable visual disability.
In order to provide our patients with the highest standard of care, our office is proud to offer the most progressive approach to pediatric vision screening, the PediaVision Assessment Solution. The PediaVision Assessment Solution is a non-invasive, infrared photoscreener that can screen infants as young as 6 months of age. In seconds, the PAS will provide a full refractive analysis of your child’s vision. The photoscreening will assess and report the presence of the following conditions:
1.) Myopia (near-sightedness)
2.) Hyperopia (far-sightedness)
3.) Anisometropia (unequal refractive power)
4.) Astigmatism (blurred vision due to skewed eye structure)
5.) Anisocoria (pupil size deviations)
6.) Strabismus (eye turns)
Photoscreening has been described by the AAP as an innovative tool that can facilitate vision screening in children who are difficult to screen and can increase the screening rate in preschool-aged children. However, since it is a newer technology, most insurance plans will not cover expenses associated with this vision screening. The charge for photoscreening is $25, which is payable at the time of service and will not be billed to your insurance.
We will begin to offer Pediavision screening at all of our well care visits for 3, 4, and 5 year old children in our offices and to any other child in which a parent requests the screen.
